Bryson Allen

Where are you from?

When do you plan to graduate?
May 2018

In your opinion, what are the three best things about UNC Charlotte?
Opportunities that UNC Charlotte creates for its students, the bond that students and the alumni have to the school, and the city in which it is located. Go Charlotte!
Where is your favorite place on campus?
Jerry Richardson Stadium

What is your favorite food?
My mom’s enchiladas

What is your favorite Charlotte restaurant?
Bentley’s on 27. I’ve only been once, but it was awesome!

Tell me three random things about yourself.
I have recently decided to start a ministry with my parents in the Charlotte area to help people with a physical need and share with them the love of Christ. I love to sing, and am learning to play guitar and drums. I participated in Niner Idol at UNC Charlotte during my sophomore year. I can do just about any accent out there, and was recently offered a potential voice acting position for a Sony-sponsored cartoon (fingers crossed)!

Bryson Allen is majoring in marketing and management and his goal is to be an entrepreneur and innovator. Already on the way to his goal, he won two awards his freshman year for the development of a business idea.

What major(s) are you pursuing and why?
I am pursuing majors in both marketing and management. I feel that these are the most versatile business majors, and will help me most in my pursuit of becoming a successful entrepreneur or innovator for any company that I may work for.
Why did you choose the Belk College of Business/UNC Charlotte?
I chose UNC Charlotte because this is my hometown. I believe that I can be a huge asset to this city and the business growth that this city is going to see during the years to come. Charlotte has given me a lot, they have provided me opportunities when I have put my foot in the door. Because of that, I wish to stay here and continue growth by giving back.
What activities are you involved in when not working/studying?
I am very involved in my church and also in my community. I volunteer a lot for West Stanly Christian Ministries. I love to give back and inspire kids to push against whatever oppositions they may have so they can become successful members of our society. I also play a lot of sports, enjoy singing and playing music.

What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?
I studied abroad the summer of my freshman year in Spain. While I was there I learned a lot about international business and the way entrepreneurship in particular is conducted in Spain. I really enjoyed taking a look at things from a different angle, and I would say that the experience of studying abroad taught me more academically than anything in college thus far.
How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone who is thinking about applying?
The Belk College will provide you with ample opportunities to be successful in your academic and post-academic career. It has allowed me to meet many movers and shakers in the business scene here in Charlotte. Alumni of the Belk College of Business are extremely loyal to give back to the college they graduated from with their time and connections.

If you have received a scholarship or financial aid, how has that helped you?
I am able to attend college because of the scholarships and financial aid that I have received. Without these scholarships and the financial aid, I would be in a great deal of debt, or may have had to postpone my college career to be able to work before pursuing a degree.

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to get an ecommerce company up and running with my family while still in college, and then when I graduate move into a more full-time position as the owner of the company to create faster growth. I also plan to take at least one of my inventions to the market either during college, or soon after. During my freshman year I won two awards from Ventureprise for the development of SmartBrush (a smart toothbrush that analyzes your saliva for information that is going on in your body in regards to your health). One award was for first place in the Charlotte Venture Challenge Pitch Day. The other award was for having the best invention of any of the UNC Charlotte students for the final Charlotte Venture Challenge. If I were to work for a company, I would love to work for one that allows me to use my innovative mind.
