My favorite place on campus is the Student Union. There is always an event happening inside or music playing. It's a great place to get your mind off academics.

My favorite Charlotte restaurant is Tupelo Honey Cafe. They have the best biscuits you could ever dream of.

What was your favorite class that you have taken at UNC Charlotte and why?
My favorite non-business class at UNC Charlotte was the History of Early Medicine and Diseases. I have always had an interest in medicine growing up, and participated in HOSA in high school. This elective let me learn more about a subject I am passionate about.

Accounting
Rachel Cox was an accounting major who graduated in May 2017. She combined her love of math and business. She loves the beauty of the campus of UNC Charlotte and its location in one of the largest financial districts in the U.S.
What major did you pursue and why?

I pursued a double major in accounting and finance. Because of my father’s business, I took an interest in business growing up. I knew I had a strong passion for math but was unsure what career to pursue. When I discovered accounting and finance, I was able to apply my love for math and business, getting the best of both worlds.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business/UNC Charlotte?

I chose the Belk College of Business and UNC Charlotte for the location. Charlotte is the second largest financial district in the country. The university is located close to Uptown which provides many opportunities for students in the Belk College of Business. From personal experience, I have been given many opportunities that I may have not received if I wasn't as close to the center of business in the South. Secondly, I fell in love with the beauty of the campus. One tour of UNC Charlotte and you'll be convinced just by the beauty.

What activities were you involved in when not working/studying?

I was involved with Beta Alpha Psi, which provided many networking opportunities through our weekly meetings. Beta Alpha Psi is for all accounting, finance and management information systems majors. Through this organization I was able to make friends that can relate to exactly what I am going through with courses. I was also involved with the National Society of Leadership Success, which allows students to work on their professional and leadership skills.

What was the best part of your academic experience?

The students and faculty were the best part about my academic experience. All the professors are extremely caring and want what is best for their students. I have also made many friendships with students in and out of my major. The people you are surrounded with daily are what make an experience enjoyable.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone who is thinking about applying?

I would tell them to come visit the college during an academic day to get the best feel of what the college is like. The Belk College of Business provides tremendous opportunities for all majors. The Belk College of Business is not easy, but it thoroughly prepares you for your future career.

What were your plans after graduation?

I attended The Ohio State University for their MACC program. Upon completion of the program I returned to Charlotte in June 2018 and began working full time for Deloitte as a Tax Consultant.
