Curriculum & Requirements

Academic Excellence

The Business Honors Program (BHP) plan of study is designed to promote academic curiosity and to inspire educational enterprise. Students begin the business honors course sequence depending upon their point of entry (freshman, sophomore, or junior) and are expected to take all business honors courses for which they are eligible.  Academic excellence is expected to be maintained throughout a student’s career in the BHP, with a minimum 3.5 grade point average.

Plan of Study

Business Honors classes are stimulating and challenging. Members are expected to discuss and participate in class, to go above and beyond in interpreting and understanding related material, and to perform at a superior level. Smaller, exclusive classes allow for natural study groups to form and promote greater faculty interaction and classroom discussion, leading to a more enriching academic experience. Students in the program are not rewarded with higher grades or adjusted grade point averages. The rewards come from the challenge and mastery of the material.

Service & Professional Development

Outside of the curricular requirements to the Business Honors Program, students are required to attend professional meetings, social events, and community service events with their peers in the program. The students on the BHP Executive Board plan an average of two professional meetings per month which feature local business leaders, recruiters looking for interns and/or full time employees, and mentors who offer guidance on the development of soft skills needed to excel in the workplace. The BHP Executive Board also plans social events throughout each semester to build community within the program and community service events to focus on one of the core BHP values of service above self. Students must attend at least 1 social event and 2 community service events with the program each semester. The Business Honors Program also has leadership and beyond the classroom requirements for every student to complete prior to graduation.
