Tom Mathews, started his consulting business in 2013 and is recognized for building and evolving award-winning HR strategies at Fortune 500 companies that align with rapid growth and global business expansion. Prior to consulting, Tom was the Executive Vice President of Human Resources for Time Warner Cable, where he spent 12 years building a world class HR organization beginning in January 2002. His role was to serve as a strategic partner at the executive level, to evaluate the human resources implications of all major business decisions affecting 50,000+ employees and identify HR programs, services and initiatives aligned with business growth needs. Tom led the organization’s human resources function by developing and implementing progressive human resources strategies across all of TWC’s operating markets, regions and corporate organizations.
Prior to Time Warner Cable, Tom was with AOL, where he served as the Vice President of International Human Resources from 1999-2001. In that role, he built an international HR function for AOL and was responsible for developing and implementing AOL’s human resources strategy for its workforce outside of the U.S.
Prior to joining AOL and the Time Warner family, Tom was the Vice President and Head of Human Resources for International Data Group, known for creating the Dummies books, their suite of technology publications, and for their technology consulting business - International Data Corp., in Framingham, Mass. Earlier in his career, he worked in various HR roles at Shearson Lehman Brothers, Data General Corp. and The Pillsbury Company.
Tom has a M.B.A. from the University of Michigan and a B.S. from Trinity College. He is a frequent presenter at industry conferences and events, including the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Cable and Telecommunications Human Resources Association (CTHRA), HR Summit and various programs in his previous companies.
Tom is active in a variety of professional associations and nonprofit organizations and is a board member of FirstBook Charlotte. Previously, Tom was on the boards of CTHRA, and the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC).
Tom lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife Lori and their twin daughters.
