Dr. Victor Z. Chen is an Assistant Professor of International Management at The Belk College of Business after earning a Ph.D. in strategy from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada.. His research focuses on institutional dynamics and diversity around the world, business strategy from a top management perspective, and general questions on (re)inventing the science-practice ecosystem. His work has been published or forthcoming in Journal of ManagementEntrepreneurship Theory and PracticeJournal of Corporate Finance, Global Strategy JournalAsia Pacific Journal of ManagementAdvances in International ManagementInternational Business ReviewMultinational Business Review, and Columbia FDI Perspectives amongst others. His research has been awarded Academy of Management (AOM) Best Paper Award in International Corporate Governance, Academy of International Business (AIB) Best Paper Finalist in Emerging Economies (twice), and Asia Pacific Journal of Management Best Paper of 2014.

In addition, he is leading a new initiative GoPeaks.org to form a science-practice ecosystem connecting business researchers and analytics professionals. He is also a (nonresident) fellow of the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI) at Columbia University, where serves as the Global Coordinator and Editor of Emerging Market Global Players (EMGP) project, a global research network of “ground” researchers on outward FDI and corporate governance of emerging-market multinationals. He was named by Charlotte Chamber of Commerce as the Young Professional Educator of the Year of 2015 (the first UNCC faculty to have received this honor). He also served as an advisor on Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts’s Charlotte-China Business Advisory Council during 2016-2017. Before his academic career, he completed all three levels of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and his research projects have been quoted by CNBC (USA), The Globe and Mail, CBC, BNN, Vancouver Sun (Canada), Valor Econômico (Brazil), RT (Russia), and Shanghai Daily (China) among others.
