Dear RMI Golf Tournament Sponsors:
Over the past few months we have worked diligently to put on the third annual UNC Charlotte Risk Management & Insurance Golf Tournament. Our desire to see this event build on the first two successful years was encouraged by predictions of a moderation in the Covid-19 virus over the summer. Unfortunately, the opposite has occurred and North Carolina has seen continued spikes in positive cases, its highest levels since the outbreak began. Due to a variety of factors the University, Rocky River Golf Club and the Tournament Committee have agreed that cancelling this year’s event is in the best interest of all participants and in line with recommendations by federal, state and local governments.
This event has always been about the students, and as we mentioned during the sponsorship process this year, the need for student support has become more evident. In the weeks and months ahead, many of our students will face new and overwhelming challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as affording housing, transportation, food, medical expenses, and access to necessary resources needed for remote learning. A Student Emergency Fund has been created by the University to provide financial assistance for students who are dealing with unexpected, unforeseen and unavoidable emergency expenses.
In an overwhelming vote in favor, the Tournament committee decided to provide 50% of this year’s golf tournament sponsorship funds to the Student Emergency Fund, and the remaining 50% of the funds will once again go to support the Belk College of Business Risk Management & Insurance Program Scholarship Fund to help students pay tuition and fees and complete their degree without increased college loan debt.
Most of our sponsors have graciously agreed to have their donation continue to support students as planned above by our Tournament Committee, and we hope we can count on you to support in this way, as well. These contributions are considered donations to UNC Charlotte and are tax deductible. However, should you decide to request a reimbursement, we will gladly provide that and look forward to your support for our next tournament in September 2021.
