About the Speaker

Chris Peek ‘93 is the President and Chief Executive Officer of CaroMont Health. In this role, Peek leads a regional healthcare system comprised of CaroMont Regional Medical Center, a 435-bed acute care hospital; CaroMont Medical Group, a network of more than 55 primary and specialty care physician offices; Courtland Terrace, a 96-bed skilled nursing facility; and Gaston Hospice.

Peek joined CaroMont Health in 2017 and quickly sought to reinforce the 75-year-old health system’s role as a regional healthcare partner with deep roots in the communities it serves. Under the guiding statement of “clinically-led, professionally-managed,” Peek worked to align operational, medical and clinical leadership in support of a model of healthcare that prioritizes compassion, accountability, reliability, excellence and safety. Under this model, CaroMont Health was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by IBM Watson Health in 2018 and has earned more grade Leapfrog Group grade “A” ratings for patient safety than any other hospital in the Charlotte region.

Additionally, under Peek’s leadership, CaroMont Health is poised for significant growth with major construction projects planned in and around Gaston County and the opening of a second hospital in Belmont by the end of 2023. Peek has spent more than 20 years leading large national and regional nonprofit and public administration organizations.

Prior to joining CaroMont Health, Peek was the Deputy County Manager for Mecklenburg County where he was responsible for overseeing a $1.6B annual budget and operations of 5,500 employees. During that time, he was also responsible for infrastructure development exceeding $500 million in investment.

A 30-year resident of Gaston County, Peek is an honors graduate from UNC Charlotte’s Belk College of Business and holds a Master of Business Administration from Amberton University. Peek is a certified lean six-sigma executive champion and holds a strategic executive designation from Cornell University.

Peek also is highly engaged in the community through service on several nonprofit boards, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Gaston, the Gaston Business Association and the Community Foundation of Gaston County. Additionally, Peek serves on the board of the directors for the North Carolina Healthcare Association.
