Alexandria Bose

Where are you from?
I am originally from Maryland.

In your opinion, what are the 3 best things about UNC Charlotte?
The variety of organizations. (There is literally a club to satisfy everyone’s needs and interest.)
The relationships the university has with the community are amazing and present many opportunities to students.
The absolute best thing about UNC Charlotte is the professors because they genuinely care about the personal and professional development of their students.

What is your favorite food?
That is a tough question because I love a variety of cuisines such as Asian, Italian and Caribbean. But if I had to choose, I would say my favorite food is apple pie. You can never go wrong with a scrumptious pie!

Tell me three random things about yourself.
I collect greeting cards.
I visited six different European countries in a month and a half.
I love interior design and I really want to renovate a home.

What clubs and/or organizations were you involved in?
I was the Vice President of Programming for Beta Alpha Psi, which is an honors organization for students studying finance, accounting, and management information systems. I was also the Alumni Relations Officer for Gamma Iota Sigma, an international collegiate fraternity for students studying risk management, insurance, and actuarial science.

Finance
Alexandria Bose graduated in May 2016 majoring in finance with a concentration in risk management and insurance. After graduation, she will be working at MetLife in Charlotte and starting graduate school.
What was your undergraduate degree?

I am pursuing a bachelor of science degree in business administration with a major in finance and a concentration in risk management and insurance.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business/UNC Charlotte?

It’s actually a funny story. I transferred to UNC Charlotte from Clark Atlanta University in 2014. I wanted to be a little closer to home which made me think of North Carolina. So I typed “colleges in NC” into Google and one of the results was UNC Charlotte. So I applied, was accepted and the rest is history. I am happy and proud of my choice because attending this university has opened a ton of doors for me, especially when it comes to career opportunities.

What activities are you involved in when not working/studying?

I was a member of Beta Alpha Psi and Gamma Iota Sigma and I have a leadership position in both as well. I have also participated in the Women In Business Intensive Retreat, Women’s Leadership Development Program, and I was the Fall 2015 Program Director of the Senior Class Council. Additionally, I was on the 2016 Spencer-RIMS Case Challenge team and the 2016 North Carolina Surplus Lines Association Insurance Jeopardy team. (We won the Insurance Jeopardy competition!)

What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?

The best part of my academic experience was being pushed and not breaking under pressure. I discovered how many plates I can balance at once and realized how strong I am. I have achieved many great things at UNC Charlotte, all of which have taught me a lot about myself and have made my family proud. I was also able to determine what industry would be the right fit for me by stumbling upon the world of insurance, which is one of the best things that has happened to me and has changed my life.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone who is thinking about applying?

That is a great question. I would say that it is a college that will challenge you and push you to do better and be better. All of the faculty members are here to help students succeed and achieve their personal and/or academic goals.

If you have received a scholarship or financial aid, how has that helped you?

I have received financial aid and a scholarship. It was helpful because I was able to use the additional cash as spending money for a study abroad trip to Bermuda. The financial aid office is very good with updating students’ tuition accounts in a timely manner. You will never have to worry about getting dropped from all of your classes because your financial aid wasn’t added to your account on time.

What are your plans after graduation?

I have a finance/accounting internship with MetLife and I will start graduate school at UNC Charlotte in the fall.
