Amanda Gabriel has amassed many years of industry experience specializing in finance, financial reporting, operations, and auditing. Most recently, as part of her role at United Technologies Corporation (UTC), she instructed a course in accounting / finance to non-finance managers, traveling within the United States and internationally to many businesses within the UTC family. Prior to joining UTC, Amanda was an auditor with CohnReznick, LLP and Deloitte & Touche, LLP. Amanda holds a B.S. in Accounting from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree in Accounting from UNC Charlotte. She is a CPA in the state of North Carolina.
What was your interest in joining UNC Charlotte and the Belk College of Business?
As a former student of UNC Charlotte, I hope to leverage my industry experience to help the students connect classroom learning with real-world application.
Describe your major areas of expertise.
My academic experience focused on the areas of financial accounting and auditing. Through my years in industry, I have experienced a number of facets of business from working in public accounting, auditing Fortune 500 companies, to leading external reporting efforts for a global corporation, to driving operational efficiencies to achieve cost reduction.
What are some of the opportunities you envision to utilize your expertise at UNC Charlotte and the Charlotte community (and beyond)?
I plan to utilize my professional expertise to develop the skill sets necessary for students to ready themselves for a career in accounting or finance.
What kind of classes will you teach?
Initially, I will teach Accounting Information Systems, but plan to expand into other areas in the future.
How do you plan to work with Charlotte groups/businesses/leaders?
Leveraging my years in industry, I plan to connect our students with top employers in the Charlotte area and beyond. In addition, I will leverage my network to bring insightful guest speakers to help ground academic teachings in real world experience.
