Master of Accountancy (MACC)

What degree are you pursuing and why?

I am pursuing a Master of Accountancy (MACC) to start my career in public accounting. I am beginning the journey to pursue my Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License and the MACC program at UNC Charlotte has demonstrated its success to prepare students for a career in accounting which includes passing the CPA Exam.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business over others?

I chose the Belk College of Business because of the structure and success of the MACC program. UNC Charlotte has distinguished itself as having one of the top 25% MACC programs in the country. The MACC program has a high CPA pass rate and a high employment rate. I knew from my time as an undergraduate student at UNC Charlotte that the professors are amazing and want their students to be successful, while also challenging them.

As the Belk College of Business celebrates its 50th anniversary, what has been your favorite memory as a student?

Throughout my time as an undergraduate and graduate student at UNC Charlotte, the Belk College of Business has given me many opportunities to excel as a student and a professional. One of my favorite memories as a student was traveling to Chicago in August of 2019 to the Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting with UNC Charlotte’s Eta Alpha Chapter. I had the opportunity to compete with fellow students in the Project Run With It competition where we engaged in a consulting project with a non-profit organization. This opportunity was a tremendous learning experience not only as a student but also as an incoming professional in the accounting industry.

What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?

The professors in the MACC program do a phenomenal job of explaining the complex topics we are studying in class. By taking the time to ensure the students understand the fundamentals of the topics, the professors can go more in-depth with these difficult subjects but still make the subjects understandable. The professors want their students to succeed both as a student but also in their careers once they complete the program.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone considering a master’s degree program?

The Belk College of Business sets its students up for success. The professors teaching the complex materials are not only experts in their field but are also fantastic at explaining the materials. Students are also given endless opportunities to connect with employers and other professionals to become a well rounded individual and professional once your degree program is complete.
