Christopher Jorgensen

Where are you from?
I am originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., but I have been living in Denver, N.C. for the past 12 years.

What high school did you attend?
I attended North Lincoln High School in Lincolnton, N.C.

When do you plan to graduate?
I plan to graduate with a B.S. in Business Administration degree with a concentration in Business Analytics in May 2020 and my master's degree in Mathematical Finance in 2021.

What are your career goals?
I plan on working as a investment banker or stock trader in the future.

In your opinion, what are the 3 best things about UNC Charlotte?

The programs and resources it offers to students.

The location is great for business students and the light rail provides easy access to Uptown!

The campus is beautiful and modern. I personally love entering the campus through the northwest entrance at night.

Where is your favorite place on campus?
I don’t have one favorite place on campus, but I constantly find myself playing basketball in Belk Gym, doing work in Peet’s coffee shops and eating at Chick Fil A and Panda Express.

What is your favorite Charlotte restaurant?
By far, Maggiano’s Little Italy is my favorite restaurant. Growing up in a big Italian family, it is hard for Italian restaurants to be “good”. Nonetheless, this restaurant is the family favorite.

What is your favorite class that you have taken and why?
Dr. Daryl Kerr taught my communications course my sophomore year. It is important for any student to take a communications course because it is very easy to sound unprofessional when writing an email or giving a presentation. That class improved my communication skills immensely and I feel much more comfortable when speaking in public.

Tell us 3 random things about yourself.

The Dallas Cowboys and the New York Mets are my favorite sports teams. Although it is hard, I am a very loyal fan.

My dad, brother and I have watched most of the Godzilla films.

Justin Timberlake is without a doubt my favorite artist. Cry Me A River is my favorite song of his.

Christopher Jorgensen is in the prestigious Belk Scholars Program, in which he will receive a bachelor's degree and master's degree within five years with specialization and training in business analytics.
What major(s) are you pursuing and why?

I am pursuing the B.S. in Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance. The reason I chose Finance is because but it takes a great work ethic and the ability to learn things quickly. I am comfortable with numbers, but the Finance field challenges me to figure out how to grow assets. Finance is also an important part in people’s life since everything revolves around money. The Business Analytics training that I receive through the Belk Scholars program will help me when I analyze large amounts of data.

What is Business Analytics to someone who may not know and why is Business Analytics an important program to have in the Belk College of Business?

Business Analytics is the process of using strategies to collect and analyze large amounts of data. Analysts develop and execute solutions which will help an organization optimize their initiatives, outcomes and competitiveness. It is very important that the Belk College of Business offers this program as there is a huge demand for business analysts, especially in the Charlotte area.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business/UNC Charlotte?

During my junior year of high school, I was looking at many prestigious colleges. At a UNC Charlotte school visit, I attended the Business Honors Program and Belk Scholars Program sessions. After listening to the director and some members speak on their programs and experiences, I knew these programs could give me opportunities and connections that no other university could. The sense of family and togetherness that was promoted with the Business Honors Program was something that I valued since it is very hard at a big university to connect with professors and students. Once I was accepted into both programs, it wasn’t a tough decision.

What activities are you involved in when not working or studying?

When I am not working or studying, I am socializing! I love making friends and spending time with others. My friends and I typically take the light rail to Uptown, play basketball at Belk Gym or watch sports. I also like to watch Netflix (currently watching The Good Place).

What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?

The best part of my academic experience so far has been serving on the executive board for the Business Honors Program. I served on the executive board of the Business Honors Program as the External Vice President, a position that I was elected to by other Business Honors Program members. I created and scheduled community service events for our members.
