Daniel Beamer

Where are you from?
Durham, N.C. (aka Bull City)

In your opinion, what are the 3 best things about UNC Charlotte?
Soccer games, professional opportunities and connections, and the beautiful campus.

Where is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the track shower because the water pressure and temperature combined make for a phenomenal ending to any workout. (This is not a joke…)

What is your favorite food?
Rice and black beans

What is your favorite Charlotte restaurant?
My favorite restaurant is Monterrey. They serve great Mexican food and they are located right near campus off Harris Boulevard.

What was your favorite class that you have taken at UNC Charlotte and why?
Arts and Society: Music (LBST 1103) was my favorite class. Even though I don’t consider myself a music person, I really enjoyed the way that Dr. Cloer nurtured my learning of classical music. He taught the class with an enthusiastic and positive attitude that allowed me to experience music through a new light. I would take his class twice if I could!

Tell us three random things about yourself.
- I love to sing and dance anywhere and everywhere, even if I’m bad at both.
- Half of my wardrobe is from thrift stores across North Carolina.
- I will drive any distance to play a good mini golf course.

What clubs and/or organizations were you involved in?
- Cross Country/Track & Field Teams
- Student Athlete Advising Committee
- Business Honors Program

2017
Marketing
May 2017 graduate and Marketing major Daniel Beamer competed for the UNC Charlotte Cross Country and Track & Field teams while at UNC Charlotte. He was in the Business Honors Program and graduated in three years.
What major did you pursue and why?

I pursued a major in marketing because I enjoy being creative and working closely with others to grow a certain brand and create a happy customer.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business/UNC Charlotte?

I chose UNC Charlotte because it was the only school that gave me the opportunity to both compete for the Cross Country/Track & Field teams, and to be a member of the Business Honors Program.

What activities were you involved in when not working/studying?

I competed for the Cross Country and Track & Field teams in the 10,000 meters, 5,000 meters, and the 3,000 meter steeplechase. I was also a member of the Student Athlete Advising Committee (SAAC), where we develop the relationship between student-athletes, the school and NCAA administrators, while also promoting Charlotte Athletics on campus. Recreationally, I love to shop at local thrift stores and play a competitive round of miniature golf.

What was the best part of your academic experience?

My professors have always been very helpful to me. They are always willing to answer questions and help me outside of class. Also, they are very gracious in working with my travel schedule so that I can continue to work when I’m out of town for competition.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone who is thinking about applying?

The Belk College of Business professors challenge you and help you along your way to success. Also, the Belk College of Business is unique because it has connections with various businesses across the Charlotte area to provide you with extra learning experiences and job placement, when the time comes.

If you received a scholarship or financial aid, how did that help you?

In a family with four kids, one of whom is severely disabled, the scholarship that I have received from the Athletic Department has taken part of a major burden off of my parents. This scholarship has provided me ample opportunity to succeed in both academics and athletics.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I will be moving to Raleigh to start a marketing position with software company Phreesia.
