Duncan Belo, Master of Accountancy program
Preparation for the Future
I am pursuing a Master of Accountancy degree. There are a few reasons why I chose to take the MACC path. The first is the opportunity to better understand decision making within organizations. Second, having an increased capacity to recognize and adjust for opportunities and risks inherent in organizations. In addition to that, the coursework will give me the ability to improve, expand, validate, and signify the contributions I can make for my employer. Finally, it is a continuation of pursuits to increase my knowledge so I may better understand, prepare for, and succeed in evolving economies.
Why the Belk College of Business
One of the primary reasons I chose the Belk College of Business is because of its strong return on investment. With the flexibility of the program, I am still able to balance my full-time position with my educational pursuits. Another appealing factor about the Belk College of Business is the connection to the Charlotte Business community. With the Center City campus located in uptown Charlotte, the location serves as a strong presence in the Charlotte business community. The prestige of the program and success of alumni also aided in my decision to choose Belk College.
I am currently working as a Senior Consultant of Financial and Operational Reporting for Windstream Communications.
Outside of Work and School
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends as well as the outdoors. Some activities I participate in in my free time are golf, exercising, and reading.
Access to Faculty and Staff
The best part of my academic experiences so far has been the close access to the faculty and administrative staff.
My MACC Experience
To someone considering the Belk College of Business MACC program, I would say the college has a real-world focus while still questioning existing orthodoxy. Something else I have also enjoyed is the enthusiastic classroom discussions and engagements. The perfect program size provides access to numerous employment opportunities while avoiding the diminished returns of overly large class sizes. I would also mention that I am appreciative of the student body and university employees. The program is really focused on developing students for rewarding careers that best benefit students and their future employers.
