“When you take time to connect with others and truly care is when you have the chance to change someone’s life for the better,” says Heidi Hansen ‘95. She is passionate about her community and is a proud alumna and supporter of the Belk College.
When did you graduate and what was your major?

I graduated in 1995 and received a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a major in management and a focus in human resources.  I also minored in management information systems.

Why did you choose UNC Charlotte?

I lived in Charlotte in the early nineties and worked in retail. I soon realized the only way to reach my goals was to get my degree. So, I started looking at schools.  I was a non-traditional student in that I was older than most of my peers and I was an immigrant from Denmark. As I looked at different universities, I realized UNC Charlotte was a great school. Its location in Charlotte made it an easy choice.

What was the best part of your Belk College experience?

I met my husband!  That aside, the Belk College was and is amazing. The professors were supportive and very approachable. I loved going there.  I learned so much!

What was your first job after graduation?

I was very pleased with the fact that I had a full time job secured before I graduated thanks to the career center at UNC Charlotte. My first position was as a human resources assistant for a training and development company here in Charlotte.

What is your current role?

Today, I provide executive coaching and corporate training.  I also am an avid speaker, and I am active in my community.

What did you learn in the Belk College that has best prepared you for your career?

My American dream began at UNC Charlotte.  As I took classes and gained further education, I realized I had the power to decide what kind of life I wanted. Anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it.

What is the importance of giving back to you in terms of time, talent or treasures?

Service to one’s community is important. My goal is to leave this world a better place than when I arrived. Giving and having compassion is more important today than ever. When you take time to connect with others and truly care is when you have the chance to change someone’s life for the better.

Anything else you’d like to say about UNC Charlotte or the Belk College of Business?

It is such a pleasure to see what UNC Charlotte and the Belk College have become. It's a place students from all over choose to attend because of the great degrees and programs offered.  Chancellor Dubois and Dean Ott have done a phenomenal job at UNC Charlotte. I’m proud to support the school and proud to be an alumna.
