Congratulations, Marketing Analytics major, Jeremiah Canty '19 on graduating! Jeremiah has been involved in the American Marketing Association, Sports Analytics Club, and the Business Honors Program. He chose Marketing Analytics because it answers the question “Why?” through numbers. After graduation Jeremiah plans on finishing the Early Entry Data Science and Business Analytics Masters Program at UNC Charlotte.

What major are you pursuing and why?

Marketing Analytics, because I like finding trends and patterns in our everyday lives and answering the question, why through numbers.

How has Financial Aid and Scholarships helped you? What scholarship did you receive?

Financial Aid funding covers about half of my school's cost and my scholarships cover the rest. It's great because I don't have to work during school and I can focus on just being a student. I have received scholarships from R & J Zimmerman End. Fund, William McKenny Schlr, and the Eunice Turner Scholarship Foundation.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business?

I choose UNC Charlotte because it was a growing school in a metropolitan area with a Business Honors Program.

What activities are you involved in when not working and studying?

On campus, I am involved in intramurals throughout the year and various organizations like AMA, Sports Analytics Club, and the Business Honors Program.

How are you involved in giving back locally?

I give back through my various volunteering experiences I volunteer at least twice every semester and more often when I have the time.

Have you had a defining “Belk College Moment” that will stay with you after you graduate?

My Belk College moment was when I was in my first marketing class and I realized that this was the right major for me, because it stood out from all of my other classes I had been taken that year and I woke up excited and ready for every class.

What are your next steps after graduating?

After graduating I will finish the Early Entry Data Science and Business Analytics Masters Program at UNC Charlotte.

In your opinion, what are the three best things about UNC Charlotte?

The best things about UNC Charlotte is the location, the diversity on campus and the opportunities the school gives you through fun outings and social events, like what CAB does.

What is your favorite place on campus?

My favorite place on campus used to be the bell tower, but now I like the the star quad and hearing my voice echoing.

What was your favorite class that you have taken and why?

My favorite class thus far was my Intro to Psychology class with Dr. Albert Maisto. The class opened me up to the college experience, let me feel what it was like to have a class with 300 plus students and the class was eye-opening. He single-handedly almost made me switch my major.

What was your best memory from your time at UNC Charlotte?

My best memory from my time at UNC Charlotte was meeting my closest friends. I remember every time I met one of my closest friends and it makes for a great story and my best memory on campus.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone who is thinking about applying?

I would tell them that UNC Charlotte has produced two fortune 500 company CEOs thus far which puts us with or above top schools around the country at half the price.
