What advice do you have for current Belk College students?
Take advantage of all the school has to offer and immerse yourself in the many programs and opportunities, such as the Student Managed Investment Fund, the Business Honors Program, study abroad opportunities and leadership opportunities across various councils or clubs.
Why did you choose UNC Charlotte?
I chose UNC Charlotte based on the reputation of the Belk College of Business as well as the local job opportunities in the financial services industry.
What kinds of opportunities did you have at UNC Charlotte?
I was involved in so many different ways, including as the president of the Financial Management Association within the Belk College, along with multiple honor societies such as the Business Honors Program and the Golden Key National Honor Society. I also took advantage of internships, most notably at Interstate Johnson Lane at the end of my junior year. I tutored algebra throughout at the University Tutorial Services Center, providing a lifelong love of teaching, which is a critical part of being a leader in a large institution.
What was the best part of your Belk College experience?
The best part was the opportunity to be exposed to talented professionals. I was able to connect with individuals within the financial services industry locally and gain leadership experience across so many facets within and around the college.
What did you learn in the Belk College that has best prepared for a significant role at a large public corporation?
The college experience is not always about what you learn. Rather, it is about teaching you how to learn and then apply those learnings. It also helps you develop the critical communication and partnering skills that are essential in the business world. I was involved in the Student Management Investment Fund, and I wrote my senior thesis in the Business Honors Program about the future of the full-service brokerage industry. The college provides a lot of opportunities to get involved outside of the classroom and gain critical leadership experience that has proved very beneficial throughout my career at the bank.
What is your role on the Belk College Board of Advisors?
Beyond providing general advice across multiple decisions brought to the Board, I also am engaged on advising specific programs and areas of focus for the Center for Professional Development, as well as the newly formed Women in Business Program.
What role do you have on the UNC Charlotte Foundation Board?
I joined the Foundation Board in the fall of 2014. My role is in support of their mission to advance UNC Charlotte as North Carolina’s urban research university through active engagement, advocacy, fundraising and entrepreneurship. I am working to fulfill this mission through my role within Bank of America as well as active involvement in the community.
If you weren’t in banking, what would be your dream job?
Banking is my dream job. Outside of that, I believe travel and gourmet food writing would be quite fascinating.
