Levine Scholar, Lauren Tooley is a double major in Marketing and Dance with the hopes of pursuing Arts Administration after college. Arts Administration will give her the opportunity to utilize her marketing degree while still working in dance organizations.

What majors are you pursuing and why?

I am pursuing a degree in both Dance and Marketing. I grew up studying dance and marketing is a field within business that allows me to use the same creativity that I do in dance.

How do you plan on combining dance and business in the future?

I wanted to continue studying dance in college, but I realized that the best fit for me would be working in Arts Administration. This allows me to continue working with dance organizations and utilize my marketing degree.

How has a scholarship helped you? What scholarship did you receive?

I am very fortunate to have received the Levine Scholarship. It has provided me with countless opportunities for professional development and international travel. The biggest impact it has had on me is that it provides the support for me to take unpaid internships, since those are often the only ones available in Arts Administration.

How are you involved in giving back locally or abroad?

Locally, I am involved with the Charlotte nonprofit Playing for Others. They provide leadership and personal development to teens through arts experiences. I love to volunteer for them as much as possible!

Have you Studied Abroad?

Last spring, I studied abroad in Florence, Italy. While I was there, I was able to take both marketing and dance classes that contributed to my major. It was such an amazing learning experience and growth opportunity to have the opportunity to travel through Europe as a young adult.

Have you completed an Internship?

This past summer, I had an internship in the Membership Department of New York City Ballet. I was able to learn more about development within a dance organization and how a dance organization differs from most other businesses.

Where is your favorite place on campus?

My favorite place on campus is by the lake next to Robinson Hall!

In your opinion, what are the 3 best things about UNC Charlotte?

1. It is in Charlotte! Charlotte is growing so quickly and there are a lot of amazing opportunities for students.
2. The professors are all well qualified, connected and informed. I have gained small pieces of knowledge from all of the ones I have had thus far.

3. I have met students that offer so many diverse perspectives that have then informed mine. It is really cool that UNC Charlotte allows so many different people to get together and collaborate throughout their university career.
