What degree are you pursuing and why?

After working for 4.5 years at a Fortune 500 company, I quickly realized that in order to take on more responsibility and climb up the corporate ladder, one must possess the necessary skills, techniques, knowledge, and experience to be an effective leader, and this is why I’m pursuing an MBA.

Why did you choose the Belk College of Business over others?

My undergraduate degree was from a Top-20 in the world university and I wanted to make sure I receive my master’s degree from a well-ranked, nationally-respected university that is located right here in Uptown Charlotte. Additionally, the MBA program at Belk College offers a multitude of courses and concentrations, allowing students to tailor the MBA experience to their future goals.

What activities are you involved in when not working/studying?

When not working/studying, you can find me trying out a new restaurant in Southpark, spending time with family and friends or volunteering at a local organization.

What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?

So far, the best part of my academic experience in the MBA program has been meeting my fellow peers. Being in class with a diverse group of talented individuals from various industries has sharpened my own thinking and leadership skills, as well as allowed me to build friendships and relationships with other professionals in the city.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone considering a master’s program?

The Belk College of Business provides a plethora of opportunities for students to learn, grow, adapt and contribute. The program’s collaborative classroom environment and study groups teach participants how to share responsibilities and take advantage of each other’s experience and knowledge for mutual benefit - skills that are directly transferable to the workplace. While challenging academically, it prepares graduates to make a dent in the business world!

How valuable do you feel this degree will be to your career?

I personally feel the MBA will be instrumental in achieving not only my future career goals in the corporate world but also create other opportunities that never existed before. I believe that the vast knowledge and plethora of skills learned and practiced during my MBA program will be critical in advancing as a leader who leads people, change and innovation in the business.
