New policy will require upper-level business students to have a laptop for their courses

Beginning in fall 2020, all upper-level undergraduate and graduate Belk College of Business students will be required to bring their own laptop to class.

The new "bring your own device" policy begins in August with the start of the 2020-21 academic year.

“This is an opportunity to bring more technology and analytics to our classrooms,” says Dr. Pat Mynatt, the associate dean for undergraduate programs. She adds that, with their own devices, students won’t be limited in learning.

The minimum system specifications are:

  • Intel i5 Processor (or AMD equivalent) required – i7 Processor recommended

  • 8GB RAM required – 16 GB RAM recommended

  • 256 GB Hard Drive

According to the policy, devices also must meet the specifications and software requirements of each course. Laptops can be purchased through a preferred retailer or through UNC Charlotte’s NinerTech.

Get hands-on product demos and answers to all your questions about which products you need and how to use them,” says Bob hoffman, NinerTech store manager. As an academic reseller, the store offers education discounts on great products every single day.

Although the policy applies to upperclassmen and graduate students, it’s never too early to invest in a device.

Freshmen and sophomores are highly encouraged to start bringing their own laptops to class as well. This will ensure they not only have a device when the policy applies to them, but that they can also reap the benefits of having academic resources at their fingertips.
