#NinerNationGives Takes on New Meaning as College Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Thursday, April 1, 2021
#NinerNationGives is April 7-9.

As the Belk College of Business commemorates its 50th anniversary, #NinerNationGives, UNC Charlotte’s sixth annual digital fundraising event, is taking on extra meaning.

The Belk College is calling on its over 33,000 alumni to show the impact the college has had on their lives and impact future business leaders and innovators by participating in the 49-hour giving event, April 7-9.

“For over 50 years, the Belk College has been driving business, molding future thought leaders and change agents, and now you can be part of our future,” said Harper Hicks ‘16, chair of the development committee for the Belk College Alumni Council. “You can help us carry forward the outstanding business education, scholarships and professional development opportunities our 4,600 students need to graduate connected and ready for success by supporting the Belk College during #NinerNationGives.”

Giving priorities this year include:

  • The Belk College Alumni Scholarship: Established by the Belk College Alumni Council in 2014, the fund provides scholarships for students to bridge the gap between financial aid and need.

  • The Belk College’s Dean’s Excellence Fund: This fund supports critical needs at the college. The fund, the most flexible resource, also supports student success through scholarships and helps the college attract and retain top educators.

  • Women in Business Fund: This fund supports the college’s Women in Business Initiative, which aims to empower Belk College undergraduate students through networking and mentoring events and an annual conference.

In addition, Business Niners can elect to support a department or program fund for which they have a special affinity, including the Childress Klein Center for Real Estate Fund, the Turner School Endowed Fund, and the Insurance Assistance Student Fund.

This year’s event also will be supported through seven alumni challenge gifts through which alumni, students and friends can help unlock additional funding.

Belk College alumni also are encouraged to check to see if their gift to the Belk College can be matched by their employer

Alumni and students can also celebrate with the other Business Niners during the Belk College Power Hour at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7. Look for a special 50th anniversary-themed video presentation on the Belk College's YouTube and Facebook pages to kickoff the event. The college also will share messages and host a Green and Gold Drive Business trivia contest through its social media channels.

During the event, gifts can be made online through the Belk College #NinerNationGives webpage. You can also monitor challenges and view live leaderboards on the page. You can use the hashtag #NinerNationGives and #BelkCollege50 to join the conversation on social media.
