Study Abroad

Studying abroad educates our students to become leaders who are critical thinkers, ethically informed and globally aware.

The Belk College of Business study abroad program is a core part of the Niblock Student Center’s transformative experience.  Students considering the study abroad program should begin research at least a year in advance in order to meet necessary deadlines and requirements. There are three different options for a student who wishes to obtain academic credit for his or her study abroad experience: Faculty-led trip, Exchange or Affiliate Provider. For more information on the programs available, admission to the program and more, visit edabroad.uncc.edu

Faculty-led programs

Study abroad programs managed by UNC Charlotte and developed and led by UNC Charlotte faculty and/or staff members. One or more faculty and/or staff members travel with a group of students from UNC Charlotte and teach one or more courses in the location abroad. Students receive predetermined UNC Charlotte credit for the course(s) taken abroad. By design, faculty-led programs integrate many group activities into their curriculum and provide a very structured, enriching international experience. For application deadlines and eligibility requirements visit Faculty-led programs.

Exchange Programs

Geared towards students who are independent and ready for cultural immersion. Students will essentially be treated as a local student at the host university. The term "exchange" means that UNC Charlotte students study abroad at partner institutions & an international student studies at UNC Charlotte (essentially "swapping places"). This model is ultimately what allows UNC Charlotte students to continue to pay full-time tuition & fees according to their residency as normal while they are abroad. There are currently three exchange programs for undergraduate students: Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), University of Hong Kong and University of Mannheim (Germany). To see a list of other Belk College of Business partners, visit Global Partners. For application deadlines and eligibility requirements visit Exchange Program.

Affiliate Provider Programs

Third Party organizations that facilitate study abroad, internship & volunteer programs overseas. The affiliate provider acts as a liaison between the student and host universities or organizations abroad and assists them prior to departure, has on-site staff and offers returnee services. For application deadlines and eligibility requirements visit Affiliate Provider Programs.

Once you understand the different structure for each program type and have determined how much you can individually spend on your experience, it is important that you thoroughly research all the expenses associated with each specific program of interest.
