What degree are you pursuing and why?
I believe that furthering my education by pursuing an MBA will dramatically contribute to both the personal and professional growth necessary to become an influential leader in today’s ever-changing world. The Belk College MBA provides an incredible opportunity for me to build on the foundation I established in my undergraduate courses and enables me to diversify my perspective and understanding of the business world. Additionally, I want to expand my professional network in Charlotte through exposure to the personal experiences and perspectives of dynamic business leaders and accomplished professors. I have spent most of my career learning the how, but now I want to know the why. I want to become a catalyst for change and continually challenge the way I think, while simultaneously encouraging others to do the same.

Why did you choose Belk College of Business?
The structure of the MBA program at UNC Charlotte was appealing to me because of the individualized focus of study, flexible hybrid course format, high-caliber teaching staff, and quality of curriculum. I respect and appreciate the focus on students I have witnessed throughout my experience in this program, and I believe the staff at UNC Charlotte consistently provides the tools and support needed to succeed. The staff was very responsive and helpful throughout the application process, and I immediately felt challenged and energized by this new chapter in my life.

If you are currently working, tell us about your job. What lessons have you learned in your courses that you were able to apply on the job?
I currently work for Wells Fargo SBA Lending as a Business Initiatives Consultant. My role on our internal special projects team is eternally changing and evolving, but that has grown to be one of my favorite aspects of the position. My professors and subsequent coursework have increased my ability to view various decisions or difficult issues that have come up from a management perspective and respond accordingly. In addition, I am gaining a more comprehensive understanding of the financial factors that impact strategic business planning.

What can you share about your experience so far being an ambassador? What do you hope to accomplish this year in your role?
Throughout the next year I hope to create genuine personal connections with potential applicants, while helping to recruit and retain high caliber individuals to become part of the MBA program at UNC Charlotte. I hope that my honest opinions and personal experiences can both encourage and inform potential new students.

What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?
My favorite aspect of this experience so far is the relationships I have formed with both faculty and other students. I have gained exposure to a variety of industries that I was previously unfamiliar with and have had the opportunity to collaborate with motivated students on numerous course projects and assignments. I enjoy being part of a diverse student body and learning from varying personal backgrounds and experiences.

How would you describe the Belk College of Business to someone considering a master’s program?

I believe that with most things in life you get out of it what you put into it, and if you are willing to put the necessary time and effort into this program there is an incredible intrinsic return.
