Ted Amato named finalist for Bank of America Teaching Award

aroundCampusTed Amato, professor of economics, has been named a finalist for the 2008 Bank of America Award, UNC Charlotte's most prestigious teaching award.

Dr.Amato teaches in the undergraduate, M.B.A. and Master of Science in Economics programs in the Belk College of Business.His teaching interests are in the areas of microeconomic theory, industrial organization and public policy, managerial economics, and econometrics.Dr.Amato'sresearch specialties focus on the structure-performance relationship in industrial economics and the determinants of productivity growth in U.S. manufacturing. Dr. Amato joined the Belk College faculty in 1980. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina, a master's degree fromUNC Greensboro and a bachelor's degree fromLenoir-Rhyne College.

The University and Bank of America will announce the recipient at a reception Friday, Sept. 19. Displays featuring each finalist will be in Atkins Library from Sept. 8-26.

Since 1968, UNC Charlotte has recognized outstanding instruction through the presentation of the Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence. Thefour otherfinalists for this year’s honor are:Banita Brown, associate professor of chemistry; Michael Hudson, professor of biology; Margaret Morgan, associate professor of English; and Zbigniew Ras, professor of computer science.
