UNC Charlotte SIFE team brings home regional championship for ninth consecutive year

SIFEThe UNC Charlotte Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team won the SIFE USA regional competition March 27, marking their ninth consecutive regional championship.

The victory at the regional competition makes UNC Charlotte eligible to attend the SIFE National Exposition in Kansas City, Mo., May 22 – 24, where they will compete against more than 160 other university teams for the SIFE national championship. The UNC Charlotte team has won its regional competition every year since the chapter was founded in 2003. 

In SIFE competitions, teams are evaluated on the value of the community projects they plan and implement, applying the knowledge and skills they have learned in the classroom.

“Our SIFE chapter contributed 5,296 hours this year and impacted 3,814 people, so it is a great accomplishment to be able to bring this trophy home to UNC Charlotte,” said Brandon Bogan, the team’s vice president of competition. 

The members of the SIFE Competition Team are:

  • Adam Arshed, a sophomore International Business major from Miami, Fla.;
  • Brittany Black, a senior double-majoring in Management Information Systems and Finance from Greensboro, N.C.; 
  • Brandon Bogan, a junior Finance major from Denver, N.C.; 
  • Gerald Burgess, a  senior International Business major from Long Island, N.Y.; 
  • Malcolm Carter, a freshman majoring in Pre-Business and Dance from Greensboro, N.C.; and
  • Matt Murrow, a junior double-majoring in Management and Marketing from Gastonia, N.C.

Their faculty advisors are Dr. Kevin Toomb and Dr. Carol Swartz.

 “SIFE competitions are an experience that can change a student’s life forever,” said Matt Murrow, SIFE vice president of marketing and president-elect. “Being around other energetic  SIFErs is awe-inspiring. We’re proud of our service projects and hope for a great showing at the National Exposition.”
