Belk College sponsors award at NC Motorsports Association Banquet

The Belk College sponsored the Economic Developers Award at tonight's first annual North Carolina Motorsports Association Awards Banquet, an event thathonored individuals, businesses and organizations that have significantly contributed to-- and have positively impacted -- the motorsports industry in the state of North Carolina.

Dean Claude Lilly presented the award to representatives of Cabarrus County, who were recognized forthe procurement of a Haas CNC wind tunnel at the Concord Regional Airport, The Haas Motorsports race complex, ST/Wood Motorsports and the relocation of DIRT Motorsports to Concord.

Also at the banquet, the UNC Charlotte Motorsports Engineering program (www.mees.uncc.edu/motorsprt/index.html) receivedthe the Education Award for a Four-Year Program.UNC Charlotte has placed more than 40 graduates in jobswith NASCAR Busch and Nextel Cup Series teams.

"The Belk College is strengthening its ties to the motorsports industry to provide opportunities for faculty and students tobecome involved with an exciting and growing part of the state economy," Dean Lilly said. "In turn, our new M.B.A. in Sports Marketing and Management (www.sportsmba.uncc.edu) will help strengthen theindustry by providing highly-skilled managers with an expertise in motorsports."
