Belk College insurance students sought-after by employers

While the employment outlook may be bleak for some sectors of the economy, students in UNC Charlotte's undergraduate program in risk management and insurance (RMI) find themselves in demand in the job market.

Ten employers will visit campus Wednesday, Feb. 25 to participate in the program's annual Career Day, looking for candidates to fill 16 positions. This represents the highest number of open positions in recent memory, according to Dr. Faith Neale, assistant professor of finance in the Belk College of Business and advisor to the RMI program.

Earlier this month, 17 students participated in a "shadow day" sponsored by the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), spending the day with a risk manager, broker or insurance company. "Shadow days provide students with an exceptional opportunity to network with industry professionals and learn through personal experience," Neale says.

The RMI program is a concentration within the undergraduate Finance major in the Belk College of Business. Students take courses on a variety of topics, including professional financial planning, risk management and life, property and casualty insurance.
